Jungle justice: Suspected armed robber burnt to death in Bayelsa

Irate mob has burnt a suspected and unidentified armed robber to death in the Yenagoa area of Bayelsa State.

The incident, which left many residents petrified, happened on Wednesday on Green Villa Road, Biogbolo area of Yenagoa metropolis.

The suspect allegedly pointed a gun at a resident of Biogbolo and robbed him of his Android phone.

It was learnt that the angry mob, who witnessed the robbery, chased the suspect, caught him, beat him up and later burnt him to death before the arrival of the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the burning of the suspect.

He condemned the jungle justice and warned the public of the consequences of taking the law into their own hands.

Butswat said: “The command cautions members to the public against taking the law into their own hands.

“The corpse of the deceased has been evacuated and deposited at the mortuary for autopsy. Investigation is ongoing.”
