Gunmen shoot driver dead, injure one, abduct five on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Saturday shot a commercial vehicle driver dead, injured one and kidnapped five other passengers including a woman.

According to the report, the incident happened at Onigaari community on the highway at about 6 am.

It was gathered that the passengers boarded the eight-seater Toyota Sienna vehicle with number plate MUS 493 HH in Ibadan on a journey to Lagos State when the bandits emerged from the bush at a point and started shooting continuously.

The driver, identified as Oluwatosin Aruwajoye, who tried to manoeuvre the vehicle and his passengers out of trouble, was said to have been shot dead instantly.

This medium learnt one of the passengers was caught in the shooting spree and he got injured in his left leg, while five passengers were taken into the bush by the kidnappers who were believed to be Fulani.

A passenger was said to have escaped by the whiskers.

It was gathered that security operatives from Toll Gate Division and Anti-kidnapping Squad from the Oyo State Police Command went to the scene immediately they were informed by the brother of the injured victim.

The injured was said to have been rushed to a hospital for medical attention while the corpse of the driver was taken to a mortuary.

The security operatives were also reported to have gone after the kidnappers to rescue the kidnapped passengers.

Meanwhile, the kidnappers were said to have called a relation of the female victim, demanding for N30m ransom.

The Oyo State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adewale Osifeso, has confirmed the sad incident, promising to give an update later.
