Gunmen kidnap Kwara monarch, wife, driver

Armed men suspected to be terrorists have kidnapped a traditional ruler in Kwara State, his wife and their driver.

The abducted monarch, AbdulRahaman Ifabiyi, is the Onire of Owa-Onire, Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State.

The Spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, a Superintendent of Police confirmed the incident on Saturday.

He said that the state police commissioner, Paul Odama, has sent teams of investigators and the vigilante to the scene.”

Ajayi said that the police tactical team that was deployed to the area rescued the wife of the king while efforts are ongoing to free him and his driver.

He stated further that the police team arrested two suspected kidnappers who now assisting the command in the investigation.

“The police command received information on October 1st, 2022 to the effect that the traditional ruler of Owa Onire a rusty town in Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State, his wife and driver were abducted by unknown armed men.

“Police tactical teams with vigilante and hunters were immediately dispatched to the area with an order to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators.

“The efforts of the teams led to the rescue of the abducted wife of the traditional ruler while two of the suspects involved in the kidnap by names Bello Abubakar (31) and Bawa Seketri (30) were arrested and helped the command in her investigation.

“Efforts to rescue the traditional ruler and his driver are still ongoing while the rescued wife has been released to join her family,” he said.
