FRSC urges highway patrol officers to be cautious, friendly

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has asked patrol officers on highways to be cautious, friendly, and firm to the motoring public while performing their official duties.

The Akwa Ibom Sector Commander, Mr Oga Ochi, admonished officers in his remarks during an in-house workshop for patrol officers in Uyo, on Friday.

Ochi warned that the command would not accept any unethical behaviours from officers while performing their official duties on patrol.

He said that the workshop was organised to remind patrol officers to be security conscious while on the highways.

He cautioned the patrol officers not to involve in any extortion from members of the public, stressing that the society expects so much from the corps.

“We are holding an Operational Workshop for all our patrol personnel in the state. This training programme comes up once in a quarter, we are holding this because we need to address vital issues that relates to operational activities in the state.

“Now, we know that our operational staff go out daily and interact with general public, including victims of road crashes and motorists, there is need for us to keep them abreast of the current trends and happenings in the state.

“There is need for us to hold this type of meeting with them to boost their security consciousness,  to realize the need to align with the happenings in the society.

“These are the things that made it necessary for us to bring all operational staff in the state together, so that we can educate on necessary issues for them to impact upon general public,” Ochi said.

Ochi charged the officers to ensure robust and regular public enlightenment to drivers and motorists to ensure every road user obey traffic rules and regulations.

He tasked the officers to ensure that drivers and commuters patronise only designated parks approved by the state government.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Head of Operations in the command, Mr David Irunoje, warned patrol officers not to involve in any altercation with members of the public.

Irunoje urged officers to avoid being rude to members of the public, while on patrol, adding that any act of provocation should be reported to the office.

He said, “You should not quarrel nor fight with offenders. If there is any form of provocation, either on the part of the offenders or personnel, let us know, so that we know what to do on time.”
