FRSC deploys 588 personnel to ensure road safety during Eid-el-Kabir

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Akwa Ibom State Command, has deployed 588 personnel to ensure safety while on the road during this Eid-el-Kabir to avoid road crashes.

The FRSC also called on road users in the state to ensure that they obey traffic rules to complement the efforts of the corps.

The Sector Commander of FRSC in Akwa Ibom, Mr Matthew Olonisaye, said this in a statement in Uyo and made it available to newsmen on Saturday.

Olonisaye urged all motorists, drivers and all road users to plan their journey on time and avoid rushing, stressing that it takes a conscious effort to keep the roads safe.

According to him, all road users should be conscious of the fact that we are in the rainy season which requires one to be careful while on the road.

“Considering the need for deliberate carefulness and caution while using the roads amidst the Sallah Celebration period, and the intricate nature of the roads during the rainy season.

“FRSC calls on all motorists as well as other categories of road users to apply caution while using the roads, especially during this Sallah Celebration season,” Olonisaye said.

The sector commander said that the Agency on its part would judiciously administer her statutory duties, and has deployed 588 personnel comprising regular and special Marshals to strategically man major routes within the state.

He said vehicles and ambulances would also be deployed to ensure seamless discharge of duties while arrangements have been made for tow trucks to clear the roads when the need arises.

Olonisaye said that the command during the period would conduct Mobile Court in conjunction with the judiciary to sanction erring offenders.

He added that operatives would be deployed to control traffic where there would be gridlocks to ensure free flow of traffic, adding that a standby rescue team would be on the ground to respond to any case of emergency when called upon.

He said: “It is therefore important to inform motorists that the Command is conducting enforcement on critical offences such as: driving against traffic (one way drive), excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking / lane indiscipline, drunk driving, road obstruction, use of phone while driving, overloading and seatbelt use violation among others.”

The sector command appreciates all who are making efforts to ensure roads are safe by obeying traffic rules and regulations, stressing that all traffic offenders would be made to face the full wrath of the law to maintain sanity and avoid carnage on the road.
