Flight glitch delays Falcons duo’s WAFCON arrival
Travel disruptions have delayed the arrival of Super Falcons stars Deborah Abiodun and Gift Monday at Nigeria’s training camp in Casablanca, Morocco, ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said the pair were unable to join the squad as scheduled after their flight from the United States was cancelled because of a technical fault. The federation subsequently secured alternative tickets to enable them to continue their journey to Morocco.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said the pair were unable to join the squad as scheduled after their flight from the United States was cancelled because of a technical fault. The federation subsequently secured alternative tickets to enable them continue their journey to Morocco.
Their delayed arrival leaves the Super Falcons camp with 23 players after forward Folashade Ijamilusi joined the team on Tuesday.
Ijamilusi, who plays for Chinese club Liaoning Shenyang Shenbei Hefeng, arrived in Casablanca ahead of the tournament, bringing coach Justine Madugu’s squad closer to its full complement of 25 players.
Abiodun and Gift are expected to arrive soon to complete the squad as preparations intensify for the continental championship.
The Super Falcons are currently training at the La Noria Club in Casablanca before relocating to Rabat for their Group C fixtures.
Nigeria, the defending champions and record 10-time WAFCON winners, will open their title defence against Malawi on July 28, before taking on Zambia on August 1 and Egypt on August 5.
