Fire guts house of former governor in Kano

There was a palpable tension as fire gutted the Mundubawa country home of former Governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau.

The fire incident which occurred on Sunday night destroyed the sitting rooms of his second wife, Halima.

Confirming the incident, Media Adviser to Malam Shekarau, Dr Sule Ya’u Sule said that the fire started Sunday evening from the inner kitchen of the house which was at the ground floor of the multi-million-naira mansion.

He said, “We thank God the fire only affected one of Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau’s living rooms and already men of the State Fire Service had successfully put off the fire.”

The spokesperson of the State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, when contacted, confirmed the incident, he however declined further comment on the cause of the inferno saying things are still being put in order.

“We are still at the house, and you know I cannot comment on anything now because we are still trying to make sure that the fire didn’t spread to other places”, he added.

This is the second time the residence will be gutted by fire.

In 2018, a fire gutted the building after an electrical spark that affected two rooms.
