FG reassures public of safety on Mokwa Bridge

NOA intensifies campaigns against proliferation of small arms

The Federal Government, through the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has reassured Nigerians about the continued safety of the Mokwa Bridge. This is particularly important for those commuting along the Mokwa Road in Niger. The bridge remains accessible.

The NOA Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, issued this statement on Thursday. It was made available to the newsmen.

The federal government, in the statement, affirmed that vehicular movement will stay uninterrupted. They added that necessary measures are being taken to preserve the free flow of traffic. They will also tackle any emerging concerns.

“After a visit to the Mokwa flood site yesterday, the Federal Government has made an effort to tackle public apprehension. The government emphasised its commitment to ensuring smooth and unhindered transportation along the vital corridor,” Issa-Onilu said.

He said that proactive steps were being taken to mitigate any disruptions and preserve the integrity of the road network.

The DG also cautioned motorists against panic buying and hoarding of petroleum products.

He warned that such actions trigger artificial scarcity, disrupt supply chains, endanger lives and properties, and exacerbate the situation.

He called on Nigerians to carry on with their daily activities without fear. He assured the public that the government is actively addressing all matters related to the bridge.

According to him, vehicular movement to and from key northern cities like Kaduna, Abuja, and Sokoto remains unaffected.

Issa-Onilu reiterated the federal government’s commitment to ensuring smooth movement of people and goods across the country. He stressed that the safety and well-being of citizens stay a top priority.

He urged all stakeholders, including transporters, traders, and the general public, to cooperate with relevant authorities and support ongoing efforts.

The director general, in the statement, called on citizens to report any concerns to the appropriate agencies for swift action.
