FEDPA trains members on quality leadership

The president, Professional E-Hailing Drivers and Private Owners Association (PEDPA), Mr Idris Shonuga, on Thursday said the union would build an enabling environment for both drivers and traders who patronise E-hailing transport service.
Shonuga disclosed this at the end of a two-day training program organised by Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Lagos.
“We see the need for FEDPA to train a group of trainers, we believe in the spirit of training trainers that will train others.
“FEDPA find solace in bringing up leaders who can manage members at their various local government branches.
“The training is for our members to know the importance of unionism and fighting for the benefit of drivers who subscribe to the union,” Shonuga said.
However, the president commended the leadership of TUC for organising a leadership program to initiate the association on the dunes and done of having a union.
According to him, members who participated in the exercise were basking in the pool of victory for being an affiliated member of TUC.
“This training talked about the digniy of labour, benefit of workers, equality with justice and fairness in our community.
They also talked about what FEDPA stands for so am happy we participated in the exercise, ” he said.
The president promised to be consistent in organising the training for all members adding that that the maiden knowledge would be passed down to all members.
He said the association has also commence profiling of all their members to enhance security among their members in the country.
Also speaking at the training program, The General Secretary of TUC, Mr Musa Lawal said that the trade union brought leaders of union together through a process to empower them in understanding how to run a union.
Lawal said once the leaders were educated on what to do, it would be easier to convince others on what to do so there would be peace at the working place.
According to him, the program would be a continuous process and in the next six month there would be greater understanding between the management and workers.
“The issue is clear, the problem we have in this country is ignorance in our workplaces,” he said.
Mrs Koforola Olaogun, one of the participants commended the leadership of FEDPA for ensuring they were part of the union and well represented.
“Where you are leading, it is very important that you are equipped with skills to guide you to know what you are fighting for professionally to enable you address the challenges,” she said.
