Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mr Aniekan Bassey; immediate past National Legal Adviser to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Emmanuel Enoidem, and former Commissioner for Economic Development, Dr Ekong Sampson, have emerged winners of the PDP primaries in the three senatorial districts in the state.
Aniekan Bassey emerged the winner for Akwa Ibom North East with 272 votes while Emmanuel Enoidem and Ekong Sampson emerged for Akwa Ibom North West and Akwa Ibom South, respectively with 329 and 368 votes.
Reacting to his victory, Enoidem said he was exceedingly happy to have emerged winner with the total votes from the electoral college, and extended an olive branch to his opponents, noting that PDP is a large family big enough to accommodate all.
“I’m going to treasure this for the rest of my life. I know I am going to the Senate because nobody who has ever got the PDP senatorial ticket has ever lost and I am not going to break that protocol,” he stated.
Also speaking, Ekong Sampson said he was thankful for the victory and would not disappoint the people of Akwa Ibom South when he got to the Senate.
