AIG Salma Dogo-Garba is in charge of Zone 5, which comprises Edo and Delta. She has ordered a massive deployment of personnel. This deployment is for worship centres ahead of the Eid-El-Kabir celebration in the zone.
The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), SP Tijani Momoh, released this statement. It was made available to journalists on Thursday, in Abuja.
Dogo-Garba ordered the massive deployment of personnel to linking and exit routes in the zone. This deployment includes highways, motor parks, critical infrastructure, and vulnerable points. He says the deployment is aimed at ensuring a hitch-free celebration.
He said it was also in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. These directives were given to all Commissioners of Police across State Commands. Their supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police were also addressed. The goal is to guarantee public safety and security at EID Prayer grounds, recreational centres and other vulnerable points.
“Efforts are being made to guarantee a hitch-free celebration. The Commissioners of Police of Delta and Edo commands must guarantee visibility policing. They should implement crowd control and put in place robust anti-crime prevention and control strategies. This will assure adequate security of lives and properties in their respective commands.
“They need to strengthen security in the entire linking roads, entry and exit points. They also need to focus on highways, city centres, and other strategic locations in their areas of responsibility.
“I am mindful of the increase in volume of traffic due to the construction of flyover bridges within the metropolis. I am also aware of people traveling for the Sallah holidays.
“There should be a massive deployment of personnel for traffic control duties. This will ease traffic congestion during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration,” he said.
The AIG further warned policemen to be professional in the discharge of their constitutional duties.
He also urged members of the public to cooperate with Police personnel. This is especially true for travellers and other road users. Police are deployed on the highways and other duty posts across the zone.
Dogo-Garba further felicitated and rejoiced with all Muslim faithful throughout the Zone. He wished them a joyous and peaceful celebration of the 2025 Eid-El-Adha scheduled for Friday.
“Once again, I wish the Muslim ummah and other residents in the zone a happy Eid-El-Kabir celebration.
” Every resident in the zone should be security conscious and vigilant. They should report any incidents, suspicious persons, or movements observed within their neighbourhood to the nearest Police station,” he added.
