The wife of Itu Local Government Council chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Learning Disabilities Society of Nigeria, Mrs Imaobong Etetim Onuk has donated protective gears, medical equipment, and maternity apparatus to Itu Primary Health Care Centre, Mbak Atai

Presenting the items on behalf of Learning Disabilities Society (LDS) Mrs Onuk said the gesture is aimed at improving health services within the LGA and to reduce mortality rate, particularly during childbirth.

She noted that as the world grapple with the COVID-19 scourge, it is necessary for everyone to continually take steps to protect patients as well as medical practitioners and caregivers, disclosing that she took a cue from the Area Ibom State’s First Lady, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel, whom she described as a compassionate and loving mother to the people.

“Look around the state, the many life touching programmes embarked upon by the Governor’s wife is enormous and commendable. The least we could do is complement her efforts by doing the little we can support this noble gesture of hers.”

In his Goodwill message, the chairman of Itu Local Government Council; Hon. Barr. Etetim Onuk commended his wife and the LDS family for their sacrifices and commitment towards catering for the physically disadvantaged persons in the society.

He expressed profound gratitude over the donation, stating that the gesture is in line with the administration’s drive for a more improved, accessible, and affordable primary health care in Itu Local Government Area and that the items would further enhance the capacity of the Health Centres in the Local Government.

Similarly, the Director of Health Itu Local Government Area; Mrs. Imaobong Asukwo who received the items on behalf of the Health Centres, thanked the donor for what she described as ‘rare and kind gesture’ and pledged to ensure they are judiciously used to the benefit of the people.

Items donated include: 18 complete set of delivery pack, 150 safety glasses, suture packs, scissors, ostensions, Nursing (theatre) caps, cavilon (bed sore) spray, temperature papers, and facemasks.
