A Non-Governmental Organisation, Connected Development (CODE) in partnership with OXFAM has established an integrity club at Nobles International School in Eket to inculcate civic responsibility in the young students.

Addressing the students at the Nobles International School, the Executive Director of CODE, Mr Hamzat Lawal, said the advocacy was to teach the students on civic duties and leadership responsibilities as they grow.

Lawal said that the present situation in the country required citizens, especially the young ones to be acquainted with their civic responsibilities.

He added that the club is to be organised by the students themselves with the supervision of the teacher to guide them on moral values that they will grow with.

According to him, the integrity club will expose social vices that young students should abhor as they grow to become future leaders.

“For us, it is about to catch them young. Our society is displaying some corrupt practices and has gone deep into the fabric of our society.

“For us, we’re trying to see an avenue where we start these clubs, we’ve started a couple of these in different states across Nigeria to have young people understand their civic rights and duties.

“In this club, we make it very practical where they run an election to produce President and Vice President so that we start putting them on the pathway to leadership and the principle of leading and imbibing the culture of civic responsibility,” Lawal said.

In his remarks, the principal of the school, Mr Gerald Pepple, expressed appreciation to Connected Development and OXFAM for seeing the need to establish the club in the school.

Gerald said that the club will be part of the student’s extra-curricular activities as it will add value to the students.

He urged the students to take the club activities seriously as it will be beneficial to them in future.

The President-Elect of the Integrity Club at Nobles International School, Miss God’love Wuraola, thanked the students for reposing their trust in her to serve them as the leader of the club.

Waraola promised to lead the students democratically to ensure they reap the benefits of the club as future leaders.

Highpoint of the event was the induction of the new executive of the integrity club for the school.
