Akwa Ibom Police intensify traffic enforcement
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has reassured residents that its ongoing statewide traffic enforcement exercise is aimed at saving lives, protecting property and restoring order on the state’s roads.
The command said the exercise was a sustained public safety initiative designed to curb traffic violations and reduce the growing incidence of road crashes across the state.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has reassured residents that its ongoing statewide traffic enforcement exercise is aimed at saving lives, protecting property and restoring order on the state’s roads.
The command said the exercise was a sustained public safety initiative designed to curb traffic violations and reduce the growing incidence of road crashes across the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said the command had observed an increase in road traffic crashes linked to reckless driving, one-way traffic violations, excessive speeding, the use of covered or concealed number plates, and the unlawful operation of tricycles and motorcycles on restricted routes.
According to the statement, the violations continue to endanger road users and undermine public safety.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, reiterated that the enforcement exercise was not intended to punish law-abiding citizens or generate revenue.
He said the initiative was a proactive measure aimed at improving compliance with traffic regulations, reducing road crashes and ensuring the safe and free movement of people and goods across the state.
The command urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle and motorcycle operators, and other road users to obey traffic laws, cooperate with officers performing lawful duties, and remain patient and civil during enforcement operations.
It stressed that compliance with traffic regulations was a shared responsibility and essential to protecting lives and maintaining public order.
Residents were also encouraged to report reckless driving, dangerous road practices and any misconduct by police personnel through the appropriate channels.
The command pledged to uphold professionalism, fairness, accountability and respect for citizens’ rights while carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
It thanked residents for their understanding, cooperation and continued support, assuring them that traffic enforcement would remain a key component of its broader strategy to improve road safety, protect lives and property, and promote a safer and more secure Akwa Ibom State.
