Akwa Ibom police arrest 65 over deadly cult clash

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested 65 persons following the cult clash in Uyo, the state capital that resulted in the death of four persons.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Odiko Macdon, said the 65 persons would be investigated and those found culpable would be charged.
Odiko, in a statement on Thursday in Uyo and made available to our correspondent, stated that some of the arrested suspects are already helping the police with useful information on the cult clash that spanned three days within the Nwaniba road area of Uyo.
He said: “A total of 65 persons have been arrested. A proper screening will be done. Those found culpable will be charged in court while those not connected to the crisis will be let go. Some are already helping the police with useful information.
“We urge Residents to remain vigilant and go about their normal businesses as normalcy is being restored.”
The two cults are Klaans and Black Axe confraternities said to be involved in the clash where fighting over the control of mini bus parks and toll collection.
The clash happened despite the existing proscription of cult groups and their activities in the state by the government.
