Air Peace is expected to resume flights at Victor Attah International Airport in Akwa Ibom State on 23 October 2026, while the state government continues discussions with ValueJet over proposed services to the airport.

Uwem Ekanem, special adviser to Governor Umo Eno on aviation and airport development, announced the plans during a ministerial briefing in Uyo on Monday, 19 October.

He said additional airlines would expand passengers’ choices and increase activity at the state-owned airport.

Ekanem rejected allegations that the government had restricted access to the airport to protect Ibom Air, the state-owned carrier.

“The speculation that Ibom Air has a monopoly is wrong. We are in talks with ValueJet, and hopefully, it will come in,” he said.

No commencement date was announced for ValueJet. Its proposed entry remains under discussion, while Air Peace’s return has been scheduled for 23 October.

Ekanem said attracting more carriers would help the airport generate revenue and offer passengers greater flexibility, including alternatives to existing early-morning and evening services. He did not disclose Air Peace’s proposed routes or flight frequency.

The announcement follows complaints about expensive tickets and limited alternatives on the Uyo route. Ibom Air previously attributed its fares to strong demand and reduced capacity caused by aircraft maintenance.
