A’Ibom FRSC to clamp down on traffic offenders May

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Akwa Ibom Command will from May 1 commence special patrol to clampdown on traffic offenders in the State.

The Sector Commander in Akwa Ibom, Mr Oga Ochi, disclosed this in a press release made available to newsmen in Uyo on Wednesday.

Ochi said the command frowned at the attitudes of drivers, motorists, and other road users for deliberate violation of traffic rules in the state despite good road infrastructure provided.

He said after careful road audit and study of traffic pattern, the command has identified that indecency in road use could draw back the development in state.

“In line with the statutory mandate and as part of the Corps’ aligning with the giant developmental strides in the State.

“The State Command of the Corps will commence with effect from May 1, 2021 a Special Patrol operation to clampdown on road users committing traffic infractions among other road traffic disobedience.

“FRSC has made notable observations on the trend of wilful and continuous disobedience to Road Traffic Rules and Regulations, capable of causing Road Traffic Crashes, Security challenges and other societal menace.

“Following the diligent road audit and study of the road traffic pattern in the State, the Command has identified the following crucial road traffic infractions among road users in the State that are responsible for road traffic crashes.

“Indecency in road use are capable of drawing back the clock of development as put in place by the State Government:

“One Way Driving (driving against the flow of traffic), Use of Phone while driving, indiscriminate proliferation of motor parks, driving on the speed lane (Lane Indiscipline) and disobedience to right of way at roundabouts.

“Abandoning of broken-down vehicles on the roads (Road Obstruction), influx of motor bikes in the metropolis against the State Government directive and driving mechanically deficient vehicles (rickety vehicles) among others,” Ochi said.

The sector commander said that vehicles and offenders apprehended during the special patrol would be issued with notice and charged to Mobile Court for prosecution.

Ochi added that apart from being charged to Mobile Court, recalcitrant offenders details would be made public through the media to serve as deterrent.
