The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has commenced a statewide traffic enforcement exercise to curb reckless driving, reduce road crashes and ensure strict compliance with traffic laws.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, said he would personally supervise the operation across the state, describing the exercise as part of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, promoting responsible road use and improving road safety.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has commenced a statewide traffic enforcement exercise to curb reckless driving, reduce road crashes and ensure strict compliance with traffic laws.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, said he would personally supervise the operation across the state, describing the exercise as part of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, promoting responsible road use and improving road safety.

According to the command, the operation will focus on major traffic offences, including one-way driving, excessive speeding, the use of covered or concealed vehicle registration plates, the unlawful operation of motorcycles on restricted routes, and other violations that endanger public safety.

The command said the exercise is a proactive initiative designed to restore order on the roads, prevent avoidable accidents and protect all road users.

It warned that anyone found violating traffic laws would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law, adding that law-abiding residents have nothing to fear as the operation is intended solely to enhance public safety.

The police command urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle operators, motorcycle riders and other road users to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with officers deployed for the exercise.

The statement was issued on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
