SSRG slams NDC, warns Bayelsans against political deception

The South-South Reawakening Group (SSRG) has rejected the emergence of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Bayelsa State, branding it a misguided political venture with no meaningful prospects in the Niger Delta.

Speaking on Thursday, the group’s convener, Elder Joseph Ambakederimo, said the SSRG does not regard the NDC as a credible political platform, dismissing suggestions that it represents the interests of the Ijaw people.

According to him, the party lacks the political, ideological and structural foundation required to gain relevance in Bayelsa State or across the wider Niger Delta region. He described its positioning as a fallacy driven by personal ambitions rather than collective progress.

Addressing stakeholders during the group’s ongoing sensitisation campaign, Ambakederimo criticised attempts to revive what he termed minority-based political movements, warning that such efforts could undermine decades of political advancement in the region.

He cautioned that aligning with the NDC would amount to a regression, noting that the era of small, isolated political platforms delivering meaningful development has passed.

Ambakederimo also warned residents of Bayelsa West Senatorial District—whom he identified as key targets of the NDC’s outreach—to remain vigilant against what he described as deceptive political messaging. He expressed confidence that the people would not be swayed.

He further asserted that no credible politician in Bayelsa would associate with the movement, insisting that political relevance in Nigeria today depends on engagement with established mainstream parties.

Emphasising the importance of inclusion in national decision-making, he urged Bayelsans to align with platforms that offer access to resources and influence, warning that continued political isolation could hamper development in the region.

Ambakederimo called on residents to support the SSRG’s awareness campaign, aimed at strengthening political consciousness and protecting the collective future of the Niger Delta.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has yet to issue a response.
