A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Chief Emmanuel Eboh, has called for the zoning of the party’s state chairmanship to the Delta North Senatorial District.

Eboh, who serves as Special Adviser on Politics to Senator Ned Nwoko, appealed in a statement issued on Sunday.

He argued that zoning the position to Delta North had become necessary in the interest of fairness and equity, noting that both the current state party chairman and the governor hail from the Delta Central Senatorial District.

According to him, maintaining harmony within the party requires strict adherence to equitable power-sharing among the three senatorial districts in the state.

Eboh further pointed out that Delta South previously occupied the chairmanship position for eight years and six months, making Delta North the most appropriate district to produce the next chairman in the multi-ethnic state.

“There are indications that the state party chairman may again emerge from Delta South instead of Delta North,” he said. “This is not healthy for a multi-ethnic state like Delta. Rotational leadership will foster unity and strengthen internal democracy.”

He urged key stakeholders, including founding members in the state and the national leadership of the APC, to intervene and ensure what he described as a proper and just power rotation.

“A fair resolution will guarantee balance in the party’s leadership structure in Delta and further consolidate the party’s strength for the benefit of all members,” he added.

Eboh stressed that an inclusive structure based on rotation would better position the party for success in the 2027 general elections at both state and national levels.

Expressing confidence in Delta North’s capacity to lead, he said the district boasts credible and experienced individuals capable of steering the party effectively through the forthcoming polls.

The party’s state congress to elect a new chairman is scheduled for Tuesday.
