PDP leads in A’Ibom in 21 LGAs out of 23 LGAs declared

The People’s Democratic Party Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is leading in 21 out of the 23 local government areas in Akwa Ibom State where election results have so far been announced.

Akwa Ibom State has 31 local government areas, and Governor Udom Emmanuel, the Presidential campaign Chairman of PDP, has won 21 LGAs for the party. In contrast, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) followed 2nd and 3rd respectively in some of the LGAs.

The APC only won in Etim Ekpo LGA with 5,182 votes to beat the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which had 4,733 votes and Labour Party which had 278 votes, while Labour Party won in Ibiono Ibom LGA with 7,752 votes, PDP came second with 5,274 votes, and APC with 3,407 votes. 

Ironically, Senator Ita Enang, a former Presidential Aide to President Muhammadu Buhari is from Ibiono Ibom and has been at loggerheads with the APC in the state over the governorship candidacy.

Similarly, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Umanah Okon Umanah failed to deliver APC in his local government area of Nsit Ubium as the People’s Democratic Party won with 11,308 votes, while the APC had 2,792 votes.

The collation of the remaining 8 local government areas will continue on Monday.
