The immediate past deputy governor of Delta State, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro has donated items including some 200 mattresses and clothes to inmates at the Warri Correctional Centre in Warri South.

The items were presented to the inmates on Monday as part of the programmes to mark the 56th birth anniversary of the former deputy governor.

Addressing the inmates, Otuaro who is a strong member of the Christ Embassy Church expressed gratitude to the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.

He said that whatever, the church have been doing for the Correctional Centre in the past 20 years was strictly under the inspiration and directives of the General Overseer.

“Everything we have been doing here are strictly under the instructions, directives, motivation and inspirations of Pastor Oyakhilome.

“We know that there are needs in this place and our purpose of coming is to give God’s words and make you a better person through the Rhapsody of Realities book.

“Do not joke with the book, study it and pray with it,” he advised the inmates.

Otuaro noted that the computers that the church donated to the Centre were destroyed during the Endsars saga and expressed displeasure over the attitude.

“You do not use your hands to spoil your properties. Many things were spoiled in this facility during the Endsars. We paid those teaching you computer before they were burnt.

“We did renovation to avoid congestion. Do not destroy the facilities again because you need them to learn.

“One day, you will surely leave here, so, we want you to learn and become meaningful to the society.

“The ones Pastor Oyakhilome has directed us, we are working on them to be able to add values to your lives,” he assured.

Earlier, in his remark, Mr Edo Lucky, the Deputy Controller, Warri Correctional Centre thanked the deputy governor for the donation.

He also expressed gratitude to Pastor Oyakhilome and all the Christ Embassy Church family.

In his brief exhortation, Pastor Yomi Morakinyo of Christ Embassy, Warri said that he had known Otuaro for over 20 years.

He added that the former deputy governor had been doing the humanitarian gesture and prayed God to continue to sustain him.

Morakinyo urged the inmates to put their trust in God noting that only God was able to take the beggar from the dunghill and set him among palaces.

“If you trust in God and believe in Him, today will be the best day in your life. Some of you were released, not that they did not do anything, but God grant them favour,” he said.

No fewer than 50 inmates gave their lives to Christ at the event.

Highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of a drama titled: “You are not useless” by the inmates as well as the cutting of the birthday cake.
