The University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has said a total of 136 graduating students will bag first-class honour degrees.

The combined convocation ceremony of the institution billed for Saturday, November 11, 2023, will have a total of 14,866 graduands.

Speaking on Monday in Uyo, while addressing journalists on the activities lined up for the convocation, the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, said a total of 2,672 will graduate with Postgraduate degrees, 11,795 with first degrees, 318 with diplomas and 81 with certificates. 

Ndaeyo mentioned that 49 graduands will bag first class in the 2017/2018 session, 37 in the 2018/2019 session and 50 in the 2019/2020 session.

“This year’s convocation is very unique and significant in diverse ways. First, it is a three-in-one convocation ceremony comprising the 26th 27th and 28th in the series of this great University.

“This ceremony is the first to be conducted since my assumption as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo. The 26th 27th and 28th combined convocation has a total of 14,866 graduands,” he stated.

The VC revealed that honorary degrees would be conferred on three prominent Nigerians during the Convocation namely, Mr Vincent Enyema, Nigeria’s Super Eagles goalkeeper, Mr Udom Inoyo, a philanthropist and Adviser to Inoyo Toro Foundation and Senator, Daisy Theophilus Danjuma.

He listed inadequate funding, encroachment on the University’s land and shortage of manpower in critical fields of study as the challenges facing the institution, adding that the university has recorded successes, especially in the area of accreditation.
