A’Ibom NUJ gets Community Service Promotions award

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State chapter has received an award for ‘Community Service Promotions”.

The award was given to the Correspondents’ Chapel by Citizens Outreach Nigeria (CitOut), in recognition of its contributions to the welfare of the people and advancement of the state and society at large.

The Chief Executive Officer of CitOut, Mr Thomas Etuk added that the Correspondents Chapel in the state earned the award due to its reportage and advocacy that had helped to promote the public interest.

Etuk stated that CitOut was a non-governmental organisation with the core objectives to connect people and communities, foster strong relationships between leaders and followers, as well as influence political actions and decisions in favour of the masses such that every voice is heard, and actions taken towards solving any threat to the good life and healthy lifestyle.

He said the 2021 edition of the programme which has the theme: “Harnessing Citizenship Engagement for Economic Development: SMEs as Catalyst” was designed to explore how entrepreneurs have been able to promote development.

On his part, the Chairman of the event, Akparawa Michael Bush encouraged those going into businesses to venture into areas of necessity.

“You could start a business from your living room and grow it into an international income earner. Do not decide to go where the big money is. Don’t follow the trend, follow your mind. venture into an area of basic necessity. It shouldn’t always be about politics,” he said.

Also speaking, Vice Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Mrs Mercy Bassey who spoke on ‘Personal Capacity Building – Key to Growth’, explained that self-introspection would enable those intending to go into businesses to examine their motives and assist such ones to make a consistent effort towards self-improvement.

“Personal branding is about consistently communicating who you are, what you stand for and your values to people strategically. Personal capacity building singles one out from the crowd. There is a constant and inconsistent improvement in one’s effort. New ideas and ways of achieving set goals keep emerging while keeping abreast with trends.

“Personal capacity building increases the quality of what we can offer. New versions, editions, innovations in products and services are all manifestations of the ingenuity of the human mind. The more we task our inherent abilities, the better the output,” she stated.
