12 killed in fresh attack in Plateau State

Twelve people have been killed in a fresh attack at Chando Zerreci village in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State; more than 20 others were injured.

It was learnt that the incidents happened on Saturday night and Sunday morning during a local annual festival held to usher in the rains and farming season.

The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the attack through its image manager, ASP Gabriel Uba.

“We are aware of the issue in Bassa. The CP has ordered more deployment to the area. I will let you know if I get more detailed information. But at the moment, the area is calm,” Uba said.

Also, Davidson Malison, National Publicity Secretary, Irigwe Development Association, IDA, said, “Chando Zerreci was attacked last night 2/4/2022 by Fulani militia where 10 people were confirmed killed.

Early this morning (3/4/2022), they also attacked our people at Ritivo while observing the traditional and cultural rites and two persons have been confirmed killed with others wounded as a result of gunshots.

“In total,12 people have been killed while about 28 people have sustained varying degrees of injuries. At the time of compiling this report, the search for victims is still on, that is to say, the report can be updated in case of any incoming information.

The attack was a coordinated one executed by the marauders as they targeted spots where the Rigwe people usually observed their cultural ritual. Very pathetic. The Lord heals the land.”
