Mr Victor Sam-Ateki, a Special Adviser, Small and Medium Scale Enterprise, to Bayelsa State governor, has been unveiled as the 19th President of Rotary Club, Central District Yenagoa.

Speaking during the ceremony on Sunday in Yenegoa, Sam-Ateki commended members of District 9141 and the entire rotary family for finding him worthy as the district head.

He noted that there was no position that did not come with its own challenges, adding that when one attained a position one should see it as an opportunity and an honour.

“Rotary Club under my leadership will be empowering the larger society as usual.

“I will help in making life better for the residents of Yenagoa.

“We have ambitious programmes that every Bayelsa resident will be proud to support when we roll them out,” he said.

In his farewell message, Sam-Ateki’s predecessor, Mr Avwerosuo Izu, said that the aim of the rotary club was to encourage and foster the ideal of services, as a basis of worthy enterprise.

Izu listed objectives of the social club to include the development of acquaintances as an opportunity for service; and setting of high ethical standards in business and profession.

He added that the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying of each “Rotarian’s” occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

“Also, we have the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life.

“The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service is another key objective of the Rotary,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the occasion and the deputy Chief of Staff to Bayelsa governor, Mr Peter Akpe, commended the club for its humanitarian services in Bayelsa.

Similarly, the father of the occasion, King Serina Doukubo-Spiff, of Ada-ama, in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa, urged the new president of the club to follow the good path of doing good to humanity.
