Voters race for cover as bomb explodes at Abia polling unit

Hundreds of voters were seen running in all directions as bomb exploded at polling unit in Umuola Hall, Ward 8, Ogbor Hill, Aba North Local Government Area of Abia State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is currently conducting a bye-election in Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency.

Ossy Prestige, the lawmaker who represented the constituency at the House of Representatives, died on February 6 and his seat was declared vacant.

It was learnt that the election was going on well at the polling unit  until substance suspected to be a bomb went off.

It was gathered that no life was lost in the incident, but some electoral materials were reportedly affected.

Security agents were said to have later stormed the the election venue to restore order.

The collation officer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been abducted by unknown gunmen.

The victim identified as Mr Mike Ozoemena is the collation officer of the APC in Aba North Local Government Area of Abia State.

Ozomena also the Campaign Officer of Mascot Uzor Kalu, the APC candidate in the constituency.
