Local vigilantes have discovered an abandoned Peace Mass Transit bus carrying National Youth Service Corps members from Bayelsa State to Abuja after armed men attacked passengers along the Aloma–Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Some passengers who escaped the attack were found near the vehicle, with one reportedly injured. A video circulating on social media showed the vigilantes attending to the survivors.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when armed men reportedly blocked two buses travelling in opposite directions along the route and abducted several passengers.

The police later confirmed that 11 victims, including the drivers of the two buses, had been rescued, while a joint security operation continued to locate those still being held by the attackers.

The discovery of the abandoned bus highlights the dangers faced by travellers along the route, which has witnessed repeated incidents of kidnapping.

The authorities have yet to provide further details on the number of NYSC members who were abducted or the whereabouts of those still missing.
