Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is to inaugurate the 21-storey building, tagged, “Dakaada Towers” on Friday, September 24, 2021, in Uyo.

The inauguration of the towers also known as ‘smart building’ is in the Central Business District of Uyo, and it is a part of the events marking the 34th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State.

It will be recalled that Akwa Ibom State was created on September 23, 1987, by then Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida.

Prof. Osinbajo will also flag off a luxury housing estate project in the state during the visit. The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Ini Ememobong, said this during a press briefing on Wednesday in Uyo.

According to him, there will be no public holiday to mark the state creation on Thursday, September 23, adding that large crowds are not expected at the events scheduled for the anniversary.

“There won’t be a public holiday tomorrow to mark the 34th-anniversary celebration. The celebration will be low key.”

“Large crowds would be restricted during the events lined up for anniversary,” he said.

Ememobong said the Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, had earlier in the week flagged off planting 300,000 seedlings of coconut as part of the anniversary.

He noted that the Uyo-Ikot Ekpene Road, which was initiated by the administration of former Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio and completed by Udom Emmanuel’s administration will also be inaugurated.

Speaking on why the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel which was built and inaugurated by the immediate past administration would not be opened for business as part of the anniversary even though the government reneged on opening the hotel in December last year as it promised,

Ememobong noted that the government was not responsible for the delay. “Four Points by Sheraton is a franchise. It is not the government that is delaying the opening of the hotel. It is not wholly the responsibility of the government; it is that of the Marriot group. The government had attended to every observation raised by the owners of the franchise”, Mr Ememobong explained.
