Uyo murder suspect says she acted in self-defence, police reveal

Paschaline Odume, 26 and a member of the National Youth Service Corps serving in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, accused of hacking to death, a guy whom she spent a night with, has told the police that she acted on self-defence.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, DSP Odiko MacDon, said this during a telephone interview with our correspondent in Uyo on Tuesday.
MacDon, who said a fully-fledged investigation of the case is ongoing, adding that the suspect accused the victim of confronting her with a machete in his house and threatened to kill her.
“I can confirm to you that the suspect is in our custody. The investigation is on. From the preliminary interrogation, the suspect said she acted in self-defence as the victim attempted to kill her with a machete, that she overpowered him and used the same machete on him,” he explained.
DSP Macdon, however, assured that the matter shall be charged at the conclusion of investigation.
Meanwhile, the victim has been identified as Akwaowo Japhet from Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
