UFTAN criticizes JAMB over exclusion of pre-degree certificate for admission

University French Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (UFTAN) has kicked against the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) decision to exclude pre-degree certificates as a requirement for admission into Nigerian universities.

The teachers particularly opposed the exclusion of DELF and Baccalaureat certificates during the 25th Conference and Annual General Meeting of the University French Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (UFTAN), which had the theme: “French Teaching in Nigeria in a Digital Age: Challenges and Prospects”.

In a communique jointly signed by UFTAN President, Prof. Mufutau Tijani, and Secretary, Prof. Richard Ajah at the weekend, the group sought the intervention of the leadership of Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV), and the French Embassy in Nigeria to resolve the issue.

UFTAN applauded the quality of instruction at the Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV), Badagry and urged all Departments of French in Universities to keep sending their students to NFLV for the mandatory Language Immersion programme (LIP).

“The Association is very worried about the sudden de-recognition by JAMB of DELF, Baccalaureat and other pre-degree certificates as requirements for admission into Nigerian universities.

“UFTAN Exco should work with the Director of the Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV) and the French Embassy in Nigeria to resolve the issue.

“UFTAN is pleased with the quality of instruction at the NFLV, Badagry and consequently urges all Departments of French in Nigerian Universities to continue to send their students to the Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV) for the mandatory Language Immersion programme (LIP)” the communique stated.

Over 100 lecturers of French studies from various universities in Nigeria and from the French Embassy in Nigeria, alongside His Excellency, Yanko Yordanov, the Bulgarian Ambassador, and the Director of the Nigeria French Language Village, Prof. Tunde Ayeleru attended the conference.
