Truck driver dies in Ojuelegba Bridge multiple truck accidents

A driver of the DAF truck, who got trapped in the impact of multiple collisions from multiple truck accidents, died while his truck assistant escaped unscathed.
Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said this on Monday, 8 January 2024 in his Preliminary report on the Ojuelegba Bridge multiple truck accidents.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the corpse of the trapped DAF truck driver has been extricated and handed over to SEHMU for onward transfer to the morgue.
He added that all affected vehicles have been recovered off the bridge to the LASTMA office, Iponri, Surulere.
“The driver of the DAF truck, an adult male, who got trapped on the impact of the multiple collisions, died in the process, while his Truck Assistant escaped unscathed.
“The dead body of the trapped DAF truck driver has been extricated.
“The corpse has been handed over to SEHMU for onward transfer to the morgue and further processing,” he said.
Earlier, Oke-Osanyintolu explained that around 0137hrs, the LASEMA Response Team encountered multiple accidents which involved three articulated trucks on the Ojuelegba bridge, while returning from a recovery operation in the Ijora axis of Lagos.
He said the multiple accidents involved two Shacman F2000 Dangote trucks, registration numbers unknown, laden with sand and a Daf truck, registration number EKY 93 YC laden with chicken feed.
The Dangote lead truck reportedly suffered mechanical error in motion, while driving in a convoy, resulting in a sudden halt of movement leading to a crash into it from the rear by the second truck (also owned by Dangote) and the Daf truck, while on top speed.
He noted that the Ojuelegba bridge has been re-opened for safe and easy vehicular movement, while the recovery operation has been concluded.
Oke-Osanyintolu added that in Attendance: LASEMA Response Team, LRT Paramedics, Nigerian Police, LASG Fire and Rescue Services.
