Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have foiled two abduction attempts and rescued 10 people in separate operations in Zamfara State.

The operations were carried out on Sunday, September 27, in Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas, according to the task force.

The Media Information Officer of the JTF, Lt Col Aliyu Danja, said troops of Sector 2 rescued four villagers abducted by terrorists at Kade Daba village in Kanoma District, Maru LGA.

Danja said the troops responded to intelligence on the abduction, engaged the terrorists and rescued three victims. A subsequent sweep of the area led to the rescue of another victim.

In a separate operation along the Tsafe-Funtua Road, troops on a picketing operation heard gunshots around Kwanoni and moved towards the area.

They encountered terrorists withdrawing through the surrounding high ground and engaged them, forcing the attackers to flee.

Danja said the terrorists had earlier set a Sharon vehicle ablaze while attempting to abduct its occupants. The occupants escaped before the vehicle was completely engulfed by fire.

Six other people were rescued after their vehicle reportedly lost control amid the gunfire.

The affected vehicle was later towed away from the road to restore the free flow of traffic.

The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma commended the troops for their prompt response and vigilance, particularly in protecting communities and motorists along major routes.

The task force said it would sustain operations against terrorists and urged residents to provide timely information on suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
