Trailer crushes one person to death, injures another
A containerised trailer has crushed one person to death while another woman sustained injuries in a multiple car crash close to Otedola Bridge outward Lagos his Sunday.
The trailer according to the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) lost control while descending towards the bridge and in the process of trying to park off the road, the container fell off the body of the vehicle and landed on top of another vehicle driven by a woman who was seriously injured.
The woman was rescued and taken to Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre located at Old Toll Gate by 7UP.
However, the agency said a young man who hawked snacks along gridlock/traffic-go-slow was crushed to death in same incident.
The agency, therefore appealed to motorists to exercise utmost caution while driving in this festive season to prevent unnecessary loss of lives and life-threatening injuries.
NEMA in a special operation tagged: “Safe Eid El Kabir” said it is working to help reduce road traffic crashes and when it happens, to ensure that rate of fatalities is reduced to minimum level.
The agency said, “It is important to inform travellers that impatient and failure to obey traffic instructions are the major causes of the ceaseless gridlock being experienced between OPIC Centre in Ogun State and Berger Junction in Lagos.
“The activities of those buying livestock are another factor which disrupt free flow of traffic along the corridor.
“NEMA and Lagos State FRSC Sector are working toward solving the problem.”
Earlier this morning, a lone accident was recorded at Lotto Corridor in Ogun State with a truck fully loaded with bamboos at about 0520 hours blocking the Lagos – Ibadan end of the road. It took almost four hours before the trans-loading and clearance of the obstruction was completed.
