Tanker explosion kills three, injured many in Abeokuta

A fuel tanker ran off its lane, hit a commercial motorcycle, caught fire killing three persons on Tuesday morning following a brake failure on Presidential Boulevard in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

A source in Abeokuta said the tanker explosion happened around 8.15 am, when the 33,000-litre tanker loaded with petrol experienced brakes failure while descending Kuto overhead bridge as it was coming from Sagamu.

The incident was said to have caused apprehension as it happened near a private school and a bank. Workers were said to have rushed out of the bank for safety while parents and guardians rushed to the school to ensure the safety of their kids.

Dozens of people were also said to have been injured in the incident while many vehicles razed by the explosion.

Ogun State Fire Service men were at the scene trying to bring down the inferno while motorists were advised to ply alternative routes.
