Sokoto govt asks FG to suspend telecoms blockade on 14 LGAs

Sokoto State Government has asked the Federal Government to suspend its telecoms blockade on 14 local government areas.

The blockades which were also imposed in Zamfara and Kaduna states, are parts of strategy by the FG to curb banditry in North-West states.

The state government, however, appealed for a review of the blockade after an enlarged security council meeting on the fallout of bandits attack on Goronyo Market which killed 43 people last week.

A statement by Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s media aide Muhammad Bello, read: “According to Gov. (Aminu) Tambuwal, the call for the rescinding of the blockade became necessary in view of concerns expressed by security outfits in the state that the outage was affecting the smooth conduct of their works.

“He said the state government has already forwarded a letter to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy to review the internet blockade.”
