Rivers Police arrest Chinyere Igwe for money laundering

Chinyere Igwe and former member of the House of Representatives for Port Harcourt II, was on Friday, 24 February 2023 arrested by the Rivers State Police Command, who found $500,000 in his car.

He was arrested by the police deployed to INEC Headquarters, Aba Road while on-stop-and-search operation.

Igwe was said to have confessed that the money was given to him by Atiku to ensure his (Atiku) electoral victory in Rivers State on Saturday’s polls.

Chinyere Emmanuel Igwe is a politician of the People’s Democratic Party from Rivers State, Nigeria. He is the current Commissioner of Urban Development, having been sworn in on 18 December 2015.

A statement signed by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, noted that a list for distribution of the money was also recovered from the alleged electoral violator.

Meanwhile, the AIG Election, AIG Abutu Yaro, has ordered that Igwe be charged with money laundering after the conclusion of the investigation.
