Police seize bullion vans for flouting approved standards

The police in Ajah, Lagos State have impounded two bullion vans which flouted the rules of engagement in the movement of cash. 

It was learnt that the two bullion vans which belong to bankers’ warehouse, ignored standard procedures, which are obtaining police escort vehicles with, at least, four riot policemen in each of the vehicles in both the front and back of the bullion vans. 

The Area Commander, Ajah, Lagos State, ACP Gbolahan Olugbemi, ordered the seizure of the vans sequel to the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, meeting with the management of banks and their subsidiaries on Tuesday on how cash should be moved from one bank to another. 

A police source told our correspondent that the seized bullion vans were filled with money. 

“The Area Commander, Ajah, Lagos State, ACP Gbolahan Olugbemi, impounded two bullion vans filled with money. 

“He ordered the impoundment of the two bullion vans for violating approved standard, which involves two escort vehicles in front and back with a minimum of four riot policemen in each of the vehicles with bullion van in the middle. As of the time of the arrest, none of the bullion vans had a single escort. This is often their usual practice. 

“The seizure was sequel to the Commissioner of Police meeting with the management of banks and their subsidiaries on Tuesday. 

“Olugbemi was said to have vowed to impound any violator and true to his word, he ordered the seizure of the two bullion vans, which were found somewhere in Ajah and Lekki for breach of security,” the source said. 

It was gathered that most of the attacks on bullion vans are often caused by bankers by ignoring standard security procedures in cash movement.
