The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 63 suspected syndicates for allegedly possessing 191 firearms and recovered 4,255 rounds of ammunition in Plateau State.

Due to a painstaking investigation, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department, Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) nabbed syndicate members and uncovered a large cache of arms hidden in a vehicle doormat.

The recovered exhibits include 8 fabricated AK-47 rifles; four fabricated revolver guns; four fabricated semi-automatic pistols, 11 AK-47 magazines; 1,105 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and 12 rounds of 7.88mm live ammunition.

A suspect, Amos Sunday Gyang, was arrested in Plateau State for possessing a semi-automatic pistol, which he allegedly discovered in his rented apartment but failed to report to the authorities.

The police have, therefore, reiterated that unlawful possession of firearms is a criminal offence, and citizens who come across weapons must immediately notify law enforcement agencies.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the force’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, vowing to spare no effort in tackling security threats.

He added that the Nigeria Police Force continued to urge citizens to support security efforts by providing useful intelligence to authorities. The Force’s Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, assured the public that the police would sustain their momentum in dismantling criminal networks and ensuring a safer Nigeria.
