Police raid Ota residence, arrest 23 foreign nationals
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 23 foreign nationals over an alleged Ponzi scheme, visa scam and other immigration-related offences in Ota, the state.
The suspects were arrested on August 4 during a raid on a residential building in the Atan-Ota area of the state, following intelligence received by the police about alleged fraudulent activities at the premises.

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 23 foreign nationals over an alleged Ponzi scheme, visa scam and other immigration-related offences in Ota, the state.
The suspects were arrested on August 4 during a raid on a residential building in the Atan-Ota area of the state, following intelligence received by the police about alleged fraudulent activities at the premises.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday.
Babaseyi said operatives attached to the Atan-Ota Divisional Police Headquarters mobilised to the location at about 11am, secured the premises and arrested the suspects for questioning.
“Twenty-three foreign nationals were arrested in connection with alleged Ponzi scheme, visa scam and other immigration-related offences,” he said.
The spokesperson said that following preliminary investigations, 21 of the suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service on August 5 for further investigation and appropriate action.
He said the remaining two suspects were retained by the police for possible prosecution over alleged obtaining by false pretence and other related offences, subject to the conclusion of investigations.
Babaseyi said the investigation was ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged fraudulent activities and determine whether other individuals were involved.
He assured that the command would continue to work with relevant agencies to tackle fraudulent activities and other offences in the state.
