Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested five suspects and recovered illicit substances during a raid on identified crime hotspots in Eket Local Government Area.

The operation followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, mandating intensified raids on criminal hideouts and identified black spots across the state.

According to the police, the raid took place at about 4:00 am on February 9, 2026, when operatives stormed a known black spot in Eket and arrested five suspects, three males and two females.

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested five suspects and recovered illicit substances during a raid on identified crime hotspots in Eket Local Government Area.

The operation followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, mandating intensified raids on criminal hideouts and identified black spots across the state.

According to the police, the raid took place at about 4:00 am on February 9, 2026, when operatives stormed a known black spot in Eket and arrested five suspects, three males and two females.

The suspects were identified as Bassey Bassey (male), Blessing Joshua (female), Christiana Emmanuel (female), Alfa Bamese (male), and Chidiebere Ekwozor (male).

Items recovered during the operation include dried leaves suspected to be Colorado (colos), liquid substances suspected to be intoxicants, assorted Tramadol and Codeine tablets, methamphetamine (commonly known as “ice”), an unknown black powder, an ATM card, cash amounting to ₦15,800, as well as several photographs and documents.

DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, said the suspects are currently undergoing a thorough investigation to determine the extent of their involvement and possible links to other criminal activities. One of the suspects, Alfa Bamese, claimed that the recovered photographs were meant for an assignment; however, investigations are ongoing to verify the claim.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements and urged members of the public to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information.
