The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading a report circulating on social media alleging that a police officer threw an object at a moving motorcycle, causing a minor to suffer a serious heart injury.

A statement issued by the command, the police clarified that no officer was involved in throwing any object at a motorcycle or in any action that led to the injuries claimed in the report.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading a report circulating on social media alleging that a police officer threw an object at a moving motorcycle, causing a minor to suffer a serious heart injury.

A statement issued by the command, the police clarified that no officer was involved in throwing any object at a motorcycle or in any action that led to the injuries claimed in the report.

According to preliminary investigations, the incident was a road traffic accident involving a cyclist, identified as Akaninyene Noah (male), who was riding against traffic.

Azare said, “The cyclist reportedly collided with another motorcycle, which was conveying two schoolchildren to school. The impact caused the riders and passengers to fall, resulting in injuries.

“The injured children were immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention. The cyclist, who violated traffic regulations, was arrested and taken to the police station, where his statement was obtained. Investigations into the incident are ongoing in line with extant laws.

“The command also disclosed that it has arrested the originator and circulator of the false report, identified as Imoh Emmanuel (male), for spreading misinformation that caused public panic. The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

The police urged members of the public to disregard the misleading narrative on social media and rely only on information from official and credible sources.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the protection of lives and property.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State.
