Police arrest two suspects, recover firearms in cult armoury

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have recovered illegal firearms and arrested two individuals following an intelligence-led operation on Saturday, 31 August 2025, around 8:30 pm.
Acting on credible information, operatives moved to Ikot Obio Ekpong village in Mkpat Enin LGA, where they successfully raided a suspected cult hideout.
DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, said the team recovered three locally-made pistols during the operation.
She stated that two male suspects were arrested, and they are Godwin Udo Sunday, 35 years and Utibe Akpan, 32 years old.
“Both suspects are residents of Ikot Obio Ekpong village.
“Preliminary investigations are ongoing to arrest other suspects connected to this illegal armoury. The police command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” she said.
According to her, further developments would be made known as they arise.
