Jigawa police have arrested seven suspected cattle rustlers and recovered eight suspected stolen cows and two vehicles in a crackdown across three local government areas.
Police picked up the suspects during patrols in Garki, Jahun, and Miga LGAs after receiving intelligence from members of the public.
The command’s spokesperson, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the arrests to PUNCH Online in Dutse on Friday, saying the operation was part of efforts to dismantle cattle-rustling networks across the state.
Adam said the suspects were intercepted by police operatives acting on actionable intelligence and information provided by residents.
He said two vehicles allegedly used by the syndicate were also recovered during the operation.
The recovered vehicles are a dark blue Volkswagen Golf, registration number WRA 158 FU, and an ash Golf 3 wagon, registration number ABJ 493 HN, Abuja.
Adam said eight cows suspected to have been rustled were also recovered.
He attributed the breakthrough to sustained intelligence gathering, community engagement and intensified patrols in identified flashpoints and vulnerable areas.
The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Tijjani Murtala, commended the officers involved for their vigilance, courage and professionalism, while also acknowledging residents whose information aided the operation.
The suspects were identified as Sulaiman Tijjani, 20, of Gunka village, Jahun LGA; Abdullahi Musa, 40, of Chai-Chai village, Ringim LGA; and Bala Muhd, 30, of Ayama village, Auyo LGA.
Others are Isah Adamu, 27, of Tagwai village, Miga LGA; Yusuf Sa’idu, 32, of Kukui village, Taura LGA; Mansur Usaini, 29, of Majiyawa village, Ringim LGA; and Kaku Abubakar, 27, of Jajimaje village, Yobe State.
Adam said the suspects remained in police custody and were assisting investigators with information about the alleged activities of the syndicate.
He added that the command was intensifying efforts to identify other members of the group and recover more stolen livestock.
