Police arrest man in Ogun while fleeing with kidnapped children
The operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a middle-aged man, Sakiru Famuyiwa, for allegedly abducting two children during a church service.
The incident happened on Good Friday during a church service at Ijeja area of Abeokuta, according to Crime report.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by policemen at Ibara divisional headquarters in Abeokuta.
He said the distress call showed that as service was ongoing at the Celestial Church of Christ Ijeja, the suspect and one other who is now at large, sneaked into the children’s department and abducted two children who are two and three years old respectively.
According to the PPRO, while on their way out with the stolen children, a vigilant member of the church sighted them and raised the alarm, consequent upon which the congregants pursued them and apprehended one of them.
He added that the Divisional Police Officer, Ibara, CSP Nasirudeen Oyedele, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was rescued from an angry mob who were about to lynch him.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
He also ordered that the accomplice must be hunted for and brought to book.
