Police arrest 70-year-old, others; recover firearms in A’Ibom

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, detectives acted on credible intelligence to apprehend the suspects on 20 March 2026 at Ikot Asukpong Village.

During the operation, officers recovered one locally fabricated pistol and two long guns, further substantiating allegations of the suspects’ involvement in violent and unlawful activities.

A 70-year-old man, Okon Akpan, is among four suspects arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command over alleged attempted murder, malicious damage and cult-related activities in Uruk Anam Local Government Area.

The other suspects are John Samson, 45; Emmanuel Asuquo, 50; and Idorenyin Umoh, 22.

The command said the arrests followed the approval of a petition concerning the alleged offences, prompting operatives to launch a targeted operation.

Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, urging the public to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime.
