PCN inducts 107 pharmacy graduates of UNIUYO

The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) has inducted 107 graduates in the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State into the Council.

The induction had Pharm. Patrick Okon, the overall best graduating student of 2019/2020 induction set carting away five of the nine prices in Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology among others.

Speaking on Tuesday in Uyo during the 21st Oath-taking and induction ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo told the inductees that the Pharmacy profession opens doors to the road that would lead them to great heights and charged them to comport and submit themselves to mentoring.

Ndaeyo who commended the relationship the institution enjoys with PCN appreciated the council for granting the university full accreditation status and significantly increasing its admission quota.

“We are currently enjoying a very strong bond with the PCN, and it is our hope that this healthy relationship will continue to blossom in the years ahead.

“May I also use this opportunity to appreciate the PCN for not only granting us full status during the last accreditation exercise but for also increasing our admission quota significantly.

“The University Management, in addition, appreciates the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria (PCN) for consistently providing prizes for the best student in the graduating class,” he stated.

Speaking to the inductees, Registrar of PCN, Pharm. Dr Elijah Mohammed who described them as ‘promising young men and ladies’ encouraged them to undertake their one-year internship programme very seriously and pass their pre-registration examination for Pharmacists (PEP) to be eligible to practice in Nigeria.

Mohammed who announced that the PharmD programme has started in five Nigerian universities urged the inductees to acquaint themselves with the Code of Professional Ethics.

“As Pharmacists, you are expected to get yourselves acquainted with the Code of Professional Ethics which prescribes your professional and moral responsibilities to the patients, pharmacists’ colleagues, other health professionals, your employers and the public among others.

“Strict compliance to the code of ethics is indispensable for the practice of the pharmacy profession. The Council frowns at professionals’ misconduct in its entirety,” he said.

Acting Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Dr Emmanuel Attih, stated that getting the graduates to their present position demanded great energy, greater precision, and utmost accuracy from us.

“The University of Uyo authorities have over the years provided the needed environment and funds for this programme to be an all-time success.

“The university has always made some new facilities available, maintained some which made it possible for practical classes, externship and clinical training to hold properly,” he said.
