Oil imports dominate Lagos ports in August
Crude oil remained the leading commodity through Lagos ports in August, with a total of 2.39 million metric tonnes recorded.
Figures show that 1.87 million metric tonnes arrived at Lekki Deep Sea Port in the first week of the month, while 524,742 metric tonnes were discharged at Apapa Quays before the end of August.

Bulk wheat followed with 321,849 metric tonnes, reflecting rising demand in the food and confectionery sector. Aviation fuel accounted for 245,600 metric tonnes, while Automated Gas Oil (AGO) and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) recorded 104,000 metric tonnes combined. Fertiliser imports stood at 44,000 metric tonnes, and Bulk Urea at 99,000 metric tonnes.
In total, 25 vessels handled shipments through Lekki Port within the first 10 days of August, underscoring crude oil’s continued dominance in Nigeria’s import profile.
