The Ogun State Government has sealed Quantum Packaging Nigeria Limited over alleged indiscriminate waste disposal and open-air burning at its facility along the Lusada-Igbesa Road in Agbara, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

The enforcement action was carried out by the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) after surveillance allegedly confirmed that the paper processing company was operating an unauthorised dumpsite near its premises.

OGWAMA said the company had previously been warned against dumping waste within its compound instead of handing it over to government-accredited waste collectors.

The authority said subsequent monitoring showed that a large area of land near the factory had been used as a dumpsite, with waste allegedly being burnt there.

OGWAMA Managing Director and Special Adviser to the Governor, Farouk Akintunde, said the alleged practices violated Ogun State environmental regulations and created risks to public health and the environment.

He said the company would remain closed until it discontinued the unauthorised dumpsite and submitted a remediation plan for the removal and proper disposal of the accumulated waste.

Akintunde said the government was committed to maintaining a balance between economic activity and environmental protection but would not permit businesses to compromise public health. The sealing was carried out under provisions of the OGWAMA Law 2020 and the Ogun State Environmental and Public Health Law 2006, which prohibit unauthorised waste disposal and open-air burning.
