Ogun Police arrest suspect, hunt accomplice over rape

Police in Ogun State have arrested a 20-year-old man, Ayomide Kamula, over the alleged rape of a 19-year-old woman in Ijebu-Igbo.

The suspect was arrested after the victim’s mother reported the incident at the Ijebu-Igbo Police Division on Tuesday, September 1.

The alleged attack occurred on August 30 at the victim’s residence in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo, according to the Ogun State Police Command.

Police operatives visited the scene after receiving the complaint and secured it for evidence gathering. The victim was later taken to a General Hospital for medical examination and treatment.

The command said its preliminary investigation led to Kamula’s arrest. He is being held for questioning as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.

Police are also searching for another suspect, identified as Boye Balogun, who allegedly fled after the incident.

The command said it had intensified intelligence-led operations to locate and arrest Balogun.

The case is to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the alleged offence and said the command would continue to take a firm stance against sexual and gender-based violence.

Ojajuni assured the victim’s family that investigators would conduct a thorough and discreet investigation and pursue the fleeing suspect.
